EDITIONS
With each edition, we recognize Belo Horizonte with new encounters, new colors, new aspirations. Going to CURA is always a magical bodily experience. The public space becomes an open and living museum, free and democratic, awakening the desire in people to meet; with each other, with the works, and with the street.

Cura sapucaí
In 2017, we inaugurated the world's first urban art viewpoint : Rua Sapucaí, in Belo Horizonte, our home. A collective gesture that resonated as a declaration of love for the city.
From a single vantage point, the eye can take in more than a dozen works of art scattered among buildings and avenues, including the world's largest public artwork created by an indigenous artist and the tallest murals painted by women in Latin America. In total, there are 16 works (14 on facades and gable walls and 2 installations), signed by 40 artists from Brazil and other Latin American countries, showcasing their diverse ways of creating and thinking.
Gender parity was a key issue from the start, in a scene still dominated by male artists. The public experienced something unprecedented: seeing murals gaining color before their eyes, amidst meetings, parties, art fairs, and debates.
The artists who marked this historic debut were Acidum Project (Fortaleza/CE), with the mural Curandeiras; Marina Capdevila (Barcelona, based in BH), with Las Carinhosas; Priscila Amoni (Belo Horizonte/MG), with Dralamaale; Thiago Mazza (Belo Horizonte/MG), with O Galo e a Raposa; It was the birth of an open-air museum; the realization of a dream and a lot of collective work.

Cura X
Back in 2017, our first year, we produced an extraordinary pocket edition: CuraX , a gift to Belo Horizonte on its 120th anniversary. With support from Cemig, the Sapucaí Collection received special lighting, further revealing its dimensions. CuraX was born from our desire to celebrate the city and further deepen CURA's connection with downtown Belo Horizonte, now illuminated—literally.
Fluxo Galeria Urbana was also born, providing space for the production and sale of works by urban artists from Minas Gerais. A symbolic gesture of valuing local art, independent production, and the creative occupation of downtown Belo Horizonte.
CURA X was also a gesture of continuity and care for what the festival had already built. In this edition, the mural "O Abraço" (The Embrace), by Davi de Melo Santos (DMS) , was restored, gaining new layers of color and affection—a gesture that resonated deeply among the residents of Belo Horizonte, making the work an affective icon of the city. It was also in this edition that Fluxo Galeria Urbana was born, an art fair dedicated exclusively to urban artists from Minas Gerais, bringing together established names and new talents in a space that values, gives visibility to, and circulates art produced in the streets. The initiative not only strengthened the local scene but also opened paths to financial autonomy for many artists.
With this extraordinary edition, CURA has shown that it is not just a mural art festival, but a vibrant movement of listening, celebration, and belonging. By illuminating the city—both literally and figuratively—we reaffirm our role as a catalyst for encounters, affections, and urban transformations.

Cura 3 - 2018
CURA SAPUCAÍ
In 2018, we consolidated ourselves as an affective and political force in the heart of Belo Horizonte. Black and female bodies occupied the heights of the city center, transforming facades into grand narratives of existence, roots, and power. It was the year of Djonga's historic show under the mountains, Criola 's iconic mural, Híbrida Astral – Guardiã Brasileira, and the arrival of the first artistic residencies, culminating in an exhibition at the BDMG Cultural Art Gallery.
We also affirmed the place of lettering within the festival: Comum 's stencil, with the mural O Voo (The Flight), brought an urban visual chronicle in black and white, while Empena de Letras (Lettering Wall), conceived by Surto and Nica , brought together 21 artists to honor the calligraphy of graffiti and grapixo in a striking collective work. In total, 23 artists participated in the 3rd edition: Criola, Hyuro, Comum, PDF Crew, Surto, Nica, Bess, Carimbo, Diva, Dninja, Error, Fhero, Figo, Goma, Hisne, Kid, Mts, Musa, Naice, Okay, Pimenta, Sake, Sink, Tina and Tita.
This edition was our street reclaiming its strength, with much affection. A year in which downtown Belo Horizonte was stage, gallery, home, and manifesto — and the city responded with eyes wide open, looking upwards.

Cura 4 - 2019
Cura lagoinha
In 2019, we crossed the viaducts and found Lagoinha — a neighborhood that symbolizes resistance, faith, and memory in Belo Horizonte. Invited by the Viva Lagoinha movement, we arrived with respect and a desire to listen, proposing an edition that, more than intervening in the space, connected with the territory. We stitched together walkways, alleys, and facades in an artistic fabric that directly dialogued with the history and strength of the people there.
There were 4 new murals and 7 works in different formats, totaling 11 pieces that broadened the horizons of urban art in the city. Participating in this edition were the artists Rachel Bolinho , with the mural Chuva de Bolinhos (Rain of Little Cakes); Elian Chali, with Cosmética Asimétrica (Asymmetrical Cosmetics); Luna Bastos , with Sem Título (Untitled); Zé D Nilson , with Vida à Lagoinha (Life to Lagoinha); in addition to educational activities, film screenings, workshops, masterclasses, and discussion groups, which made CURA 2019 a space for exchanges that went beyond painting.
It was an exciting edition, marked by listening, belonging, and transformation. We ceased to be just a festival and became a movement for the symbolic and affective requalification of the city—and of the way we inhabit and imagine our territories.

Cura 5 - 2020
Cura na janela
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, we proved that public art is, above all, presence and reinvention. Without crowds, but with renewed energy, we occupied the city in other ways — with monumental installations, flags in windows, indigenous murals, and works that connected with the seclusion and introspection of the period. We were quieter in the streets, but resounding in meaning.
We present the largest public artwork in the world created by an Indigenous artist: Selva Mãe do Rio Menino, by artist Daiara Tukano , spanning 1,006 m² and showcasing ancestral power. We also featured Robinho Santana with Deus é Mãe, the largest mural painted by a Black artist in Brazil; Lídia Viber with Retorno; Diego Mouro with Sem Título; and the inflatable installation Entidades, by the late Jaider Esbell , under the arches of the Santa Tereza Viaduct. The installation Bandeiras na Janela, curated collectively, showcased works by Célia Xakriabá, Denilson Baniwa, Randolpho Lamonier, Coletivo Cólera Alegria, and Ventura Profana —in direct dialogue with social isolation and the symbols we choose to raise.
With a shared curatorial effort between the founders of Cura, Domitila de Paulo and Arissana Pataxó , we traversed the pains of time and emerged as a territory of affection, counter-hegemony, and future. It was a breath of hope and a reaffirmation that the city pulsates, and that art continues to be one of its most vibrant hearts.

Cura 6 - 2021
Cura raulzona
Resistance, for us, is the watchword. In 2021, we faced significant challenges in organizing the 6th edition of CURA. Even in the face of obstacles imposed by the pandemic and policies that weaken the cultural sector, we persisted. We began in October with remarkable works: the artist Ed-Mun and the MAHKU Collective painted gable walls in Belo Horizonte.
One of the highlights of this edition was the creation of a Kené sculpture of almost 3,000 m² on the ground of Praça Raul Soares, our Raulzona, by the Shipibo-Conibo artists Sadith Silvano and Ronin Koshi . Crossed by Avenida Amazonas, Raulzona was symbolically chosen for this intervention. The avenue, named after the main river that flows through the lands occupied by the Shipibo-Conibo, symbolically connects the indigenous cultures of the Amazon to the urban center of Belo Horizonte.
The JK Collective also contributed with a projection on the facade of the JK Building.
Months later, in February 2022, we continued with new works. The Giramundo group presented the installation "Gira de Novo" (Spin Again), inspired by the Bakongo cosmogram, symbolizing cycles and new beginnings. The multi-artist Mag Magrela painted the gable of the Savoy Building, addressing themes such as the past, resilience, and healing.
This edition reinforced our commitment to urban art as an instrument of transformation and resistance.

Cura raulzona
2022, the second edition of Cura na Raulzona. Once again, we transformed the landscape of the square and its surroundings. This year, we firmly planted our feet on the ground—literally and symbolically. With the theme EARTH, we turned to the ground, to the territory, to our roots, and to the urgency of the struggle for demarcation and reimagining the future from those roots. For ten days, between September 15th and 25th, Raul Soares Square became our meeting point, a space for celebration, struggle, and belonging. We created three new murals, a poster facade, an installation in the square, and performances that powerfully and beautifully traversed the city. Our program also included concerts, DJs, the launch of the CURA Store and the new catalog—all outdoors, free of charge, and collectively.
In this edition, Sueli Maxakali , an Indigenous teacher and filmmaker from the Tikmũ'ũn people, painted the gable of the Roma Building, bringing the strength of the Indigenous female gaze to the city center. Pedro Neves , an artist from Maranhão based in Betim, created a mural on the Copacabana Building, blending the imagery of the North with the harsh architecture of downtown Belo Horizonte. The Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) uniquely signed a mural on the Rochedo Building—a visual manifesto about agroecology, land rights, and rural popular culture. And Willand Cabral , a non-binary artist from the Aglomerado da Serra favela, brought the world of ballroom culture to the facade of the Hotel Sorrento, with a work that challenges the limits of the body, art, and the city. In the square, the installation "Men of Clay," by the Bahian artist Selma Calheira , presented 26 human figures in raw ceramic, aligned side by side, as a call for social equity, dignity, and belonging. A silent reminder that, above all, we come from the earth—and it is to it that we always return. Our 7th edition was a deep dive into the issues that sustain us: belonging, memory, justice, and community. We continue with the ground beneath our feet and our eyes turned towards the horizon.

Cura 8 - 2023
Cura amazônia
2023 was the year we asked permission to disembark in Manaus, the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, and co-create the first edition of Cura Amazônia alongside incredible Indigenous artists. In our first edition outside of Belo Horizonte, we had the honor and privilege of inaugurating an Indigenous Art Viewpoint in Largo São Sebastião, a stage for historical and cultural events and a vibrant life.
Three indigenous and Amazonian artists were featured in this edition:
Denilson Baniwa (Brazil) - Painted the gable of the Cidade de Manaus Building, bringing his perspective on the cosmology, conflicts, and potential of the Baniwa people and contemporary indigenous populations.
Olinda Silvano (Peru) - An artist from the Shipibo-Conibo people, she painted the gable of the Rio Madeira Building with Kené designs, traditional patterns that express spirituality, knowledge, and connection to the forest.
Jaider Esbell (Brazil, in memoriam) – His work "Entities" was projected onto the facade of the Amazonas Theater. The installation, exhibited posthumously, is a visual manifesto connecting art, spirituality, and the struggle of indigenous peoples. Our eternal gratitude for Jaider's legacy. During the 11-day festival, two large-scale murals were painted on building facades, in addition to a large installation. Of course, the program was packed with lectures, shows, debates, and parties, all open to the public. Our tribute and gratitude to the embodied memories of the forest peoples.

Cura 9 - 2024
Cura AMAZÔNIA
The first edition of CURA Amazônia was the opening of a portal and a major milestone for Indigenous public art. So unforgettable that we returned in 2024 for the second edition, continuing the transformation of the Largo de São Sebastião landscape. This time, through the hands of artists Duhigó and Rember Yahuarcani.
Duhigó’s work, titled in the Tukano language ‘Humûhô Hêhûm Yepá naTuonhaque (Usé)’, which translates as “The grandfather of the world and Yepá thought about how to create the universe,” covers the facade of the Mônaco building.
Rember Yahuarcani’s work, titled ‘Mujer Rana’, which in Portuguese means “Mulher Sapo,” is located on the facade of the Monte Carlo building.

Cura 10 - 2024
Cura raulzona
CURA turns 10! In 2024, we celebrated the 10th edition of CURA with an exclusively female program and an invitation to imagination — a power that children master. After all, imagination is the first step toward action. What if Raulzona were not just a roundabout, a space of passage? What if it were a space where we stay? What if children could enjoy it? A space that welcomes mothers, older people, and other-than-human beings…
Imagining allows us to see what does not yet exist and presents the transformative possibility of redesigning history, spaces, and landscapes. We imagine and, therefore, we make it happen!
Between October 24 and November 3, Praça Raul Soares once again became the epicenter of our activities. From there, we watched in awe the work of the three artists of this edition:
Liça Pataxoop painted Hãm Kuna’ã Xeka (The Great Time of the Waters) on the Leblon Building. The work is inspired by tehêys, traditional fishing nets of the Pataxoop people, and celebrates the ancestral power of nature, the rainy season, and the renewal of life.
Clara Valente made her debut on large-scale facades with the largest blind facade ever painted in Brazil, on the Claro Building. Her work investigates the springs of the mountain ranges of Minas Gerais and proposes a connection between city and nature through native flora.
Bahati Simoens created You Can’t Cry If You’re Laughing on the D’Ávila Building. The painting celebrates abundance and the strength of the African diaspora, with Black female figures that evoke memory, belonging, and hope.

CURA Macro
– Nova LimaCURA Macro emerges as a new breath within CURA. It is public art on a monumental scale. It is an expanded mural. It is the collective power of a city that colors itself house by house, wall by wall, until it becomes landscape.
In Nova Lima, CURA Macro makes its debut with an unprecedented gesture: over 150 houses together form an Indigenous macromural created by the MAHKU collective – Movimento dos Artistas Huni Kuin. A living mosaic that celebrates rivers, forests, and invisible worlds with visionary colors.
MAHKU carries an art that is spiritual, political, and ancestral. In their strokes are the songs of the Huni Kuin people, the memory of enchanted beings, the rhythm of the forest, and the wisdom of dreams. Their presence in Nova Lima marks a milestone, a meeting of worlds that resist, re-exist, and reinvent perspective.
With CURA Macro, art becomes an urban gesture, a visible impact, and a symbol of belonging. It is continuity and rupture. It is ancestral future. It is beauty that can be seen from near and far, and an impact that can be felt in concrete, on the skin, and in the heart.

CURA 11 - 2025
– RAUL SOARES (BH)In 2025, we arrived with a new verb: PRACIFICAR.
More than a theme, PRACIFICAR was our call to experience the square with more intensity, more care, more presence. Because Raulzona is much more than a roundabout—it is fertile ground for memory, breath, and invention.
And the eleventh edition of CURA came to prove just that. Days of open skies, powerful sound, pulsating culture, and encounters that only happen when the city becomes a backyard.
With every finished facade, every step danced on the grass, every pause amid the rush to look up—we felt it: it’s happening. It’s alive. It’s CURA.
With works that stretch time, reveal the beauty of the everyday, and reclaim stories that refused to be erased, CURA 25 transformed BH’s landscape once again.
And when art takes over the streets, it moves everything: the economy, tourism, local commerce.
Sylvia Amélia planted in the sky of Avenida Amazonas a choreography of flights and pauses, her translucent blue bird dances reminding us that stopping is also power.
Paulo Nazareth inscribed in the city’s heights the story of Matias, a Black, freed, and insurgent man, whose struggle for freedom becomes mural and memory—visible, undeniable, urgent.
Julianismo brought everyday life to the wall, with chairs, red sun, and the poetry of simplicity—an ode to the small moments that sustain life.
Deco Farkas blurred reality and imagination, creating a scientific-dreamlike garden where everything seems possible, even what doesn’t yet exist.
Inside Out Project transformed the square into a living monument: an open-air gallery made of real faces, full smiles, and gazes that hold time. Hundreds of portraits pasted in the heart of the square, and with so many people together, what was a portrait became collective memory.
CURA 25 was this: an invitation to re-enchant the ordinary, to slow down amid the chaos, to transform the city into what it can be—just, sensitive, alive.
